Question: Regarding Power to Components
#1
Long story short, last september I lost my liscence for a year... I did something stupid. End of discussion.
Anyways, I decided to pay off and keep my car. I'm done my payments this Oct. I may sell it, and I may keep it. I may want to go performance oriented next time around... But I'll probably keep it for at least another year... so here's my question.
I have an RF 1000BD now for my subs. I've always been someone to like having more power then I need. I don't always go around with my car booming, but it's nice sometimes to be able to do it, depending on my mood. Whats been lacking however are some serious mids, and some better quality highs, since I was only powering off the head unit. I was just offered a nearly brand new RF 550S (137.5W RMS x 2) for $300 CAD from another moderator on my local car site. I'm seriously considering this purchase, but is it overkill for mids and highs? Could you guys recommend a good component set that can handle this kind of power; something that won't cost me an arm and a leg.
The reason I went with this amp, is cause it will match my current mono amp. (I tend to like to keep a clean look... rather then have 3 different kind of amps...) It's hard enough to find anything that matches it, cause it's a couple years old, so when his opportunity came up I jumped on it. Is it a good buy for components? ...and if so, which components should I be looking at. Seeing as how I have until Sept. I have time to save up to drop a good amount of cash (maybe around the $800 CAD mark) ....
If I take the amp, I go to pick it up Friday!

They are most likely going into some sealed off door panels... and I don't want to make the same mistake I made with my subs (buying cheap stuff) and having to replace it later. I'd rather get something that I will enjoy for along time, and that has good longevity (durable) ... The subs I have now arent great, they are 2 12" MTX 8000's ... they will eventually be replaced in the future. But for now, since they still do their job decently, I want to get a good frontstage, that won't distort.

I wouldn't really consider MTX T8000's cheap, they are pretty good quality, not top of the line but definitely not cheap. Heck Tim Baillie is using them in his Regal and that's good enough endorsement for me.
Like I said for $800 you probably won't find a bad sounding speaker.

thats true... at that price they are most all good.... I just want to build myself a list, and see whats available in my area to go and listen to before I buy. Every speaker has their pros and cons ... before i buy anything, I just want to listen to alot of them!
as for the MTX's ... yes thats true, but in my eyes I just see them as being fragile. I've had Infinity Perfect 12s and I had burnt coils, and torn spiders everywhere.... I went though about 3 pairs of those. I guess I just rate this in the same category of durability for some reason.

I would rate them way above the Perfects in durability. We fed one MTX T81244A off a MTX T81000D (1700 watts) and it took most of the power daily driving, and all of it for burps.
It was actually in the truck in the Fiero Buildup thread in the Western Canada forumn for awhile.
