looks exactly the same as those lightning VC2 subs except without the interchangeable motor structure....

ED lost me with the E15a V.1.

At least they are getting rid of those flat cones on some models.

Generally, people assume about 1/2 the surround as part of the Sd (surface area), because it's in motion as well.
So a fat surround isn't as much of a penalty as many people believe.

My guess is that they chose this tall surround - which is still pretty fat - because it affords them simply more excursion than any half roll could have otherwise... because in doing this tall surround, you actually are losing some of that "1/2 the surround is working as part of the surface area of the cone" effect.
