Ok, the rear speakers in my car are 5x7, and looking at 5x7, i see that alot of them say they are 6x8's. Is this right? why is that?

Thanks

Matt

Well I guess I'm the idiot who'll try and answer this one;
basically they're saying that speaker will fit in both those sizes.

so a 6x8 is really just a 5x7? So a 5x7 comes with a plate or something so it will fit in a 6x8 spot.

no...I 5x7 is 1" smaller in each direction compared to a 6x8. Although some vehicles will accept both size speakers in the same hole.

sometimes

oh, so its not the speakers that are universal, rather the mount in the car, I was wondering. Didnt make sence to loose an inch both ways just to make a "universal" speaker size for both those sizes.

5"x7" speakers usually will have tabs that stick out to allow mounting in a 6"x8" hole.

6"x8" speakers therefore do not need these tab extensions & allow the speaker to be a bit larger.

That's why you'll find that Pioneer makes both sizes.
