reccomendations for subs amp and speakers to run in an 02 maxima w/ bose stereo

the best recommendation I can make is go to a Car Audio store\section and listen to the what they have and make your choices from there. As stated above, what might sound good to one person might not to another.
As for subs, it all depends on the space you are willing to give up but I would recommend dual 12" L7's I am getting mine on Saturday hopefully.

I reccomend buying a fair bit of sound deadening material and doing the trunk yourself to save some coin on install. for speakers, it's wide open. GO shop around with your ears. for amps, the reality is, any of the name brand products are all pretty good quality wise. Avoid dirt cheap flea market stuff and you'll be fine. If you don't intend to upgrade your electrical system, I'd try to keep everything under 1000Wrms mark for the sub amp and 4 channel...
Go to some local retailers and sample their stuff. ask questions. if at all possible avoid big box stores as they perpetuate ignorance in this industry. For the install, ask around as well find out which shop(s) have a solid reputation for service and go there.
there's so many good parts out there at very reasonable prices that naing brands would just show you my pesonal Bias and not do anything for actually getting you what you're looking for.
sorry it's not a dfintive answer with a road map and precise directions, but it's really the best bet for you to be satisfied with your purchase. A specialized local shop can also change out equipment and such if your not fully pleased with your nitial purchase. buying online and being dissapointed means buying stuff twice.

is the trunk enough? I don't really trust myself to do the doors as well is it easy enough to sound proof the trunk?

If it is something that you can try yourself in a easy to access area like the trunk, try it. After that the doors are big metal gongs that rob your speakers of output. So short answer, learn the trunk, if you do a good job, then tackle the doors as they are important.
Sound deadener is available as a bulk roll of 50sq.ft., this is enough to get your doors and trunk completed. It is best purchased as a bulk roll vs. the box sheets, saves you a ton of $$$$.

hm, well i'm thinking i'll give that a try than. Is it a lot more expensive to get it installed? i'm thinking I would rather do that since I don't really wanna do the doors. Also would 2 amps improve the sound at all? Or would I be better off to just get one that has higher output? Also any suggestions for a deck that meets what i'm looking for would be appreciated than some subs and speakers that meet the same power ratio shouldn't be too hard to find. thanks

All these basic questions can be answered at your local car stereo shop. It'll also help you to find a place your comfotable with. If they aren't helpful and just want to push whatever product they have on the floor on you. it'll let you know they are not a great shop. then you can go to another shop and ask all kinds of questions.

I find, in Brantford anyway, that neither the specialized shops or the FutureShop have a sound board that is fully functional. Speakers are missing. Head-units won't turn on. Amps aren't wired correctly... I guess its hard to keep it that way when there's always new products rolling in from all the manufacturers. But it drives me crazy. The other problem is that they have a hard time helping you out with the various head-units.
I'm going to apply to FutureShop to see if I can be a weekends-only car audio department Sales Associate. I wouldn't stop trying to make everything sound 'perfect'. But that a very subjective thing.
