I checked at Communist Tire today for some 4GA but the only stuff they had comes in kits and is meant as a battery terminal upgrade.... plus they charge 20+ bucks for like 3 feet of the stuff. Trust me, if i had a chance i wouldn't be searching at CT but I have a canadian tire gift card and no other money at the moment :P But i'll get back to this post as soon as I get around to completing the "Big 3"

the big 3 is the least expensive option and given you are getting dimming at assumed low power sub hits I think there may be other issues electrically. While doing the big 3 make sure all connections are tight and are clean, bare metal to bare metal at connection points (clear away paint, rust, grime). Make sure all connections to the amp (power from the battery and fuse, incoming power + and -, and make sure the ground is tight and clean), then make sure ALL connections to the speakers are tight and clean as well.
Your cars power supply is not very good, but a 60 amp alt can only do so much. replacing the alternator can be quite expensive if done wrong (read the alternator threads on the forum) so fix everything else first.

You guys made fun of JohnVroom, first but he gave one of the best responses to the thread.... I would stick with wiring.. the alt is prob fine, I wont even change the battery (its winter too so that adds up to everything), you guys talking about additional batts to a guy that doesn't even have big 3 done... really??... and I wont even go about the HID headlights, which is illegal! and secondly VERY ANNOYING if you ride is low and you get the glare from the ******** that converted to HID from miles.... well i guess i just went there....

I got what I'm thinking is a good deal on some 2 AWG wire.... something like 17 feet for 20 bucks. It's made by audison which makes me think it's great quality. So I'm gonna start working on the big 3 next time I get the chance and I'll report back with any new info!

And to add to the whole alternator deal, I just replaced the alt with an equivalent to stock because I killed my old one. It was only producing 50A and had a ridiculous amount of lost current. So I'm thinking it's not the alternator.

I'll double check my amp ground first and when I'm under the hood I'm going to check the battery ground and all that.

replace the battery terminals if you just have the ring type.
Add in a battery to chassis ground
Add in an Engine to Chassis ground wire
You could do a Alt to Battery (fused) however IMO would be a waste

This should help out with your dimming. If not why not see about getting a cheap .5fd cap from Walmart and installing it on your main power feed of your light wiring? This would help stable the voltage and reduce/remove the dimming.

0GA wire... fvk He's not drawing 300a+
I'd still do the big three with the 1/0 anyway. Is that type of overkill a bad thing?

Is it absolutely necessary to get new battery terminals? Or can I just bolt the 2 gauge with a ring terminal on the stock ones?

If you clean them with a metal brush and degrease it it should be ok... But is it really worth the $5 that you will pay for new ones at Canadian tire? I guess depending on how much is your time worth- mine is priceless ... Did I mention that the ones from crappy tire come in black and red pimping colours?

p.s. I'm using 0awg so I had to get a "proffessional" terminal that Will accept that size and it was made in china
