replacing civic 6.5 door speakers

Hey! long time posting here...got lots of help on my initial setup, which I have enjoyed immensely for a few years. Thanks to all the members who helped!!

question now...i put energy (futureshop) 6.5" components up front in my 2001 civic. It seems moisture has eventually damaged the voice coils of both of the door speakers, and neither is functional now. I pulled them and the coils are rusted and seized up. The tweeters and crossovers seem to be fine (they do cut out occasionally, but this would be anther thread prob related to amp or headunit-which I will likely be soliciting help for next!)

I would like to know recommendations for replacing the 6.5's for the doors. I did do some creative installation to fit the energys (ie, a spacer ring to allow depth), so i'm capable, within reason, of fitting bigger drivers than the civic might normally allow. Would these drivers be referred to as mid-bass? I do see "mid-bass" drivers for sale on the net, but unsure if they are the same as a 6.5 from a component set. I see no need to replace the entire component set, just the door speakers.

Basically, i want bang for buck. I'm would be driving them with a 4 channel clarion amp bridged to 2 channels at about 90 watts per channel. Sound quality would be priority over spl.

Any suggestions? I'd like to keep the price to below 100 bucks for the pair.

If you want to reuse the x-overs from the comp set you should find drivers which have nearly identical T/S specs as the Energies. Mids from comp sets would not be the same as dedicated midbass drivers.
When reinstalling, I would highly suggest some baffles inside the door cavity. If you have the room, use 8" baffles. You can get foam baffles from Crutchfield and maybe even locally, or fab some fiberglass yourself. Keep moisture off those drivers! As an added benefit, it should reinforce the midbass output from the 6.5s.

thank you both for your input!!!
danyman, those drivers from solen look to be just the budget mids I've been looking for! I snooped around for info on this company and they seem to be highly regarded.
I will order them, and also take your advice on the baffles, Audio1der. I will also be dynamatting the panels, which I didn't take time to do the first time.

just to clarify terminology for the future, the drivers included in a typical "component" set would be mid range, which would attempt to reproduce some mid bass too? Mid bass are dedicated lower frequency drivers that focus on a narrow, lower mid bass range?

Anyway, as Audio1der cautioned, would the Peerless from Solen should be a good match for my crossovers from my energy system? I wasn't quite sure what specs to analyze to determine a good match.

I would also appreciate any suggestions of local retails that would carry 6.5 mids that I might audition. Seems most stores focus only on sets.

thanks again guys.

You will be hard pressed to find a retailer that stocks component midranges/midbass.

Your general description of a midrange vs. a midbass is correct.
