How do the indepentants compare to the big boxes ?
There was a thread over on carsound and I was shocked to see how so many indies in the states don't care at all about their customers.............

This is printed right on the bill... Now get someone that bitches enough, or a good customer and its easy to still look after them.. Its just taking care of the Weekend Renters.

Camcorders over the weekend, big screens for Superbowl Sunday (comin up soon), radar/laser detectors for the long weekend etc...
Re-stocking fees for "rentals" is the same price Rentown(EasyHome) charges for "rentals".
Other than that 15day moneyback if the product is returned in new condition with all packaging and accessories. Otherwise suitable restocking fee.
30 day exchange policy.
60 day Price Protection policy.
Money back (in-store credit) extended service plans.

If it installed, it is pretty much yours. If you chose it, you either installed it or wanted it installed, it is yours. You can't take underwear back after you've worn them now can you. 99% of the time a return is a cry for a better deal, or a lie or another item that the customer likes better. My best over the years is I have to return my system to pay for my speeding ticket I just got.

if i ever want to return something to a distributor, lets say staub electronics, its a straight 241, if i send back 1 dollars worth of stuff, i have to buy 2 dollars in return, seems fair to me, they are soing me a favor by taking back something i couldnt move, the same goes for retail, if the stuff is mint and never installed and has all the packaging etc, full refund, if its been installed or parts are missing or the box is destroyed, its yours. the customer has to take some responsibility once in a while. and demo equipment sales is final period

Its very rare that I ever get returns. Used to get them all the time at A&B (buyers remorse), they'd get sucked into the Super Sale advertising and buy stuff they probbaly shouldn't have in the first place. And we used to get the weekend buyers too. But the big screen or audio system for their party and then try to return it after the weekend.
but since I've been at indy shops for the last 7-8 years, I hardly ever get returns.
My policy is pretty much the same as defro stated. If it's mint I'll take it back or exchange it for a full credit (whatever). But if you've been bad and abused the sh*t............!!

What amazes me is independant shops that don't take returns for any reason, then wonder why they are losing business to the internet. Or for warranty they charge large shipping and handling fees for packaging etc. Those shops also wonder why the internet is encroaching on their business.

Even at 60 days it's twice as much as the rest.
Corporate decision.
Probably due to Costco and grey market retaillers. But thats just an uneducated guess.
