Security code problem: Kenwood KDC-889

Hey everyone,

I got a little bit of a problem. My car battery died on my GF the other day when the ground on the alternator snapped off. My GF drove the car dead that day not realizing that the battery was not charging. Having fixed it, the next day she goes out and attempts to use the stereo and it prompts her for the 4 digit security code for my kdc-x889 deck. Being dumb, she decides to enter numbers randomly to try and get it to work without phoning me to ask what the real code is. So, after 3 attempts, the face plate shuts down and the security prompt has now disappeared.

The faceplate is now lifeless and i am not sure how to to get it to the security prompt again so that i can enter the right code. The manual contains nothing on how to resolve this problem. To say the least, i am a little pissed at her. Anyone else had this problem? I am not looking for a security bypass measure, just a way to get the prompt to show back up so that i can enter the right code.

thanks for any help!

And thats why you stay away from decks with security features liek that, cuz even if the theive steals it, its a loss to you in either way..

I've never had a problem before because i am not dumb enough to put myself in this situation...i just never expected my GF would be so dimwitted and dumb...she still thinks she didn't do anything wrong. I even had an Kenwood excelon series deck before this one but the wiring harness broke on it after 4 years. I bought this one almost 2 years ago and have needed to re-enter the code on many occasions with no problems.

so, if i am getting this straight, there is no way to reactivate the faceplate to prompt me for the code again? I don't need the Kcar code or any of that, i just need the screen on so that i can enter the right code. If i take the fuse out of the constant power wire to the deck and put it back in, it still won't power up the faceplate to give me the security code prompt?

You could try sticking it into service mode. You'll need to use tools, since the face won't open, but it's worth a shot. Hold 1 & 3 while you hit the reset button.

Dunno if it'll work but you never know... http://www.canadiancaraudio.com/online/general-discussion/23259-my-bad-luck.html

Seems to me that the security feature did exactly what it was designed to do. While it sucks that the gf did not know any better, a security feature like this leaves a theif SOL.

I wonder if the GF will offer to pay the shipping?
If she does, don't let her go.

Don't be pissed at her, that is just silly and gay.LOL Press the reset button or unplug the battery cable for a while. If you have a remote. Enter "KCAR" as a unlock code. Get a manual and see how to enter letters via remote.

i would try disconnecting power and starting all over agian, before i even posted the question. Then i would ask for other suggestions.

So, now that you've had a chance to try everything, did it work? or did you send it in yet?

Contacting Kenwood would be a good bet too as they probably know how their deck works.
