Setting amplifier gain to max?
#2
Its harder to accidently turn the gain up to far in the trunk than it is on the deck, Mistakes happen dont give them a reason
(Altho this sounds like system suicide waiting to happen thb)
but i dont see why it wont work... might be somthing i dont know tho.

I totally agree with your answer, but the music sounds fuller with added treble and bass on the deck an you lose that when you go past 60% of the decks volume control, I find with the gain at max and my deck at 50% volume with my personal preference deck settings of treble and bass it sounds alot fuller and better and loudest.
I just dont know if that will make my amp work hard or blow any equipment?

It's totally fine as long as your deck only 0.2V RCA pre-outs... At least that used to be the lowest value on the amps I'm good with. Sounds like you have an undersized amp.
I wouldn't do what you're suggesting.
Just my $0.02

What kind of deck, and have u tested RMS RCA output at 50% volume? If u have a deck that puts out very little voltage it may be necessary to gain it up quite a bit.
If it's the way u prefer the sound, so-be-it. Just remember to remind anybody borrowing your car, and never let a drunken friend within arms reach of the volume ****. Accidents do happen.

It's definitely safer to keep the gain down. Amps don't have to work as hard and keep a little extra headroom on tap. That being said.... McIntosh amps (at least the home amplifiers) come with instructions to turn the input gain all the way up for best results. I really don't know why and I have just started playing with the gain settings in my home stereo but no major differences to note yet.

not a chance would i run anything like that. the noise floor will be terrible. run the gains as low as possible while still acheiving the volume you want (and without clipping).
you can tune youe headunit for your desired sound afterwards. i'm sure the alpine has some kind of EQ?
