SIRIUSly Expensive

Thought I'd put SIRIUS in my sons car thru an older Pioneer I had. So I'm posting this to give you a heads up if you're thinking about it. If you are lucky enough to have a deck that doesn't need the Interface, then you can save a few bucks.

1) Pioneers Interface $115.00
2) Sirius Universal car kit $100.00
3) Additional subscription + activation $127.00

$342.00 tax in

I even had an extra tuner and was under the mistaken impression I could utilize it somehow, but my research was poor.

Ah well, he's happy anyway

Cheers!

John

Yup, nobody to blame but myself

I did realize halfway through, but by then the first blister pack was open so it would have been a fight to return it (and just stick the Starmate on his dash and leave it at that) but then the store gets stuck with an open box item that's tough to sell and why should I stick it to the store right?

It was a good lesson, I'll leave it at that, but at least if someone searches Starmate, Interconnect, Sirius, Universal Car Auto, this will come up

I paid 40 bux for the SIR-ALP2 then called them and was good to go, $16 a month and done, I just wish I had bought the lifetime.

I'm saving for the lifetime sub as well. When I bought my Jeep it had a couple weeks left of the free subscription and I really enjoyed it, but the sub died out, and I don't have a spare $579 or whatever they charge here to get the lifetime sub. I figure if its something I really want I might as well just pay for it once and be done with it...I have enough monthly bills already.

I also did the math, and a lifetime subscription will pay for itself in 3 years.

It was waived last year for my initial sub, (1year) but this was an add on and I only did a year, so it was 20 bucks minus 5 for doing it online. The actual additional account is only 8 bucks a month, but the online options start at 1yr.

If you want to pay monthly it used to be in the fine print you could phone them and set it up, but then you lose the 5 buck online break LoL. Dont know whether you can still do that or not.

yeah you can still phone them but as stated you loose the $5 discount! I've also heard that they have started to charge a fee to get out of the one year subscription. Luckily I don't pay for mine. One of the other perks of big box employement. However it seems you overpaid a littlebit cause if you had the pioneer interface it should have hooked up to the ip bus and the hide away tuner would have plugged into the interface. The pioneer piece is $100 and the tuner here is $60 the direct connect is $40. The direct connect should even have the pigtails in it.

Well, I could have overpaid, sure. First thing i purchased was the Pioneer Sb Interface, everything thing looked good, except I noticed right away I did not have any cable that would fit the "TO SIRIUS" DIN connector. Everything else was OK, IP bus cable included, power / ground / fused (2 amp) cable included. So I needed a DIN connector cable...hmm

I go look at the original Starmate box...no extra cables, look at the Starmate, no place for a DIN connector. I'm beginning to get the drift by now...hit FS/BB...the kids look at me like I have a third eye in my forehead when I explain what I am trying to do...They politely tell me I cant get there from here ...I hear cackling from behind the computer desk...

I look at the UniAutKit...yup, has my DIN cable...oh, wait, it has a TUNER also?? hmmm..79 bucks I think, purty close to hundred with tax and bag of chips, pop.

After that it was follow the dots.

Oh, we have a business plan at work as well, unlimited last time I checked, or maybe ? bucks a month, dont remember, we have a rep come in every now & then, but this is for an additional personal account, on an existing personal account.

Cheers!

yeah our reps come in and they put our personal units on a demo account so we don't have any problems. Well accept if you quit then you gotta pay! I appologize for the cackling though, on the other hand we hear it so much it gets funny after a while. The other one is when the antenna's fail they ask for a replacement that is $49.99 and you can get some of the units for 29.99 and they include the whole car kit which has an antenna, the same antenna!
