You have an email........... or two. And I need to talk to you a bit about the VW. So hit me back as we're building a custom VW show car (not KANKAR related) and I need to bounce some things off you if you don't mind.

Thanks guys!
Tom, what would you like to know about the beetle? What I can tell you is that you will need to do a ton of sound deadening and control to get good sound out of it, other than that they are awesome to work with. There is a ton of room for kicks, or subs in the kicks. Subs will fit under the dash or in the passenger footwell. The battery is under the back seat so power wire runs are short if the amps stay inside. An extra battery will fit under the seat or in the front tire well in the trunk. One downfall is they came with pretty pathetic charging systems and alternators are expensive since the cooling fan is connected to it.

Hmmmmmmmm, thinking about mounting the sub on the passenger side under the front hood............ so it's firing down into the front floor. Do you know if anyone has done this as a free-air application before ?!?!
All the gear has to be mounted under the front hood for this car. IT's going to be a relatively simple setup on a budget. One amp, pair of components, and a single sub. The deck has to be hidden as well. So we're thinking of going with some type of controller and a CD changer.
We've done some sound deadening on the floors and up the back walls and wheel wells. Then the guy gave up and didn't want to spend any more money on this area.
Car is a complete ground up restoration. It was completely gutted down to the last bolt. We just put the body back on the floor pan two weekends ago and now it's slated to go to the interior guy. Motor is still being worked on. I guess that means I better feed a power wire from the front to the battery before it goes out to the interior guy Interio is being glued down tight apparently.

Yeah, the carpet is usually glued pretty good. Most times the carpet is pulled back it actually pulls the threads right through the backing.
I have never seen a sub setup like you describe. Most people would not cut out the body to do it. I was contemplating doing this with my car but instead of going free air I was going to have a sealed enclosure. I decided there was enough room under the dash so the car would not have to be cut. As far as free air, there are alot of holes from the trunk to the pasenger compartment that would need to be sealed.
Where are you going to mount the components? There are a few companies making fiberglass kickpanels that work good (I used a pair as a base for mine in my old install). The same companies also make hidden stereo holders that replace the factory cardboard glovebox as well that might work for your application.
