k...this is what i think they would be. umm a little box that you plug your rca's into one side and then out the otherside and into your amp that boosts the signal to your amp. Thus allowing you to not have to turn the gain up as high on the amp.

my questions:

is the above correct?

what are they worth? is there different kinds? any better than the others?

what does that do for the amp?


i run the 7894 with a concept cc-d800a amp and i'd say currently my gains are about 3/4th way up or so if i remember right.

 

That deck has 4v pre-outs, shouldn't need a line driver. But if you do decide to go with one, you won't be sorry, i bought a Phoenix Gold PLD1 from Caprice, and I love it. Dropped my gains, amp runs much cooler and the sound is cleaner.

RW Audio makes great line drivers. Phoenix Gold, Audiobahn also make line drivers. I've only used the phoenix gold but people rave about RW Audio's so I would say they are a safe bet as well.

 

i have a tld22(tantrum by Phoenix gold) 8 volt line driver. i think that it has it's advantages. but i too yearn for more power, the new tild22(titanium by Phoenix gold) 12 volt is due to come out soon. hubba hubba

 

what are these things generally worth??

i know they say my deck has 4v preouts, but after reading peoples comments and thinking about it, i struggle to believe it's true.

Is it correct to think that by being able to lower the gains i'll reduce the chance of running my amp into clipping? as well as make life for my electrical system easier?

Wow 13v! I don't think my hu could produce that much voltage through its internal amp outputs! What amplifiers can handle that high of an input?

 

AC's rating is peak.. So theres actually does 9v's RMS (13x.707=9).. PG's LD's are rated as 8v's RMS (Most actually do 9v's)..

 

As stated AC's are actually 9v RMS.. Assuming a 2/1 or even 3/1 gain overlap (The autosound/carsound guys recommend 3/1 gain overlap) it means that any quality amp with a input sensitivity greater then say 2v's works fine. Most amps are well over 2v's now a days.
