For the money I don't think RW Linedrivers can be beat..

But what do you wish to acomplish by adding a linedriver? you might not need to..

you will be able to lower your gains, but you will still have enough of a chance running your amp into clipping, and it will not make life on your electrical system any easier..

The whole idea of gains on an amp are to match the input voltage. If you get a linedriver you can turn them down and still get the same output. But you can still drive the amp into clipping.

Chris, can you further explain your above post please. How can you drive your amp into clipping if you turn the gain down???

yep..

clipping is distortion, and distortion is clipping (thats probably the easiest way to explain it). If you have your line driver setup and gain set, and your amp with the gain turned down.. your still control the volume with the deck, and that controls the input that your line driver gets.. if you turn up your deck too much it will clip at the deck, and continue passing through the line driver to the amp.. That's why when setting gains you find out how much you can turn the deck up without distortion (usually about 3/4 volume), then set the gains from there..

I hope this is clear.. it's early in the morning and I'm still half asleep

Well if your old amp is only capable of a 2V RMS maximum input then feeding it 9V RMS off a line driver will certainly push it into clipping.

At least thats my impression. I never have old eequipment so I wouldn't know.

Lardass.

You can always pick up a used one cheap somewhere. People generally don't need them anymore because deck voltage is high enough. But if you have a lousy deck that you really don't want to replace, or if your T-ing off RCA's to go to multiple amps, then they are handy. I T-off my full range signal to the tweet amp and the amp for the mids, and midbass. I thought I would need one but me EQ's have a master control **** on each one, we have them cranked up pretty high, so it's like a built in line driver.

It totally depends on your setup. It was kind pointless for me because My 1200.1 can only take 4v input and my deck already puts out 5 (panasonic 903). However next season it will become very handy It cost me about 128$ brand new anyway. Good Luck in your decision

im not sure what the input voltage is on my amp, but the specs say "input impedance 10k^".... I just used "^" to represent the ohms symbol. is this what I should look at? and what does that make the voltage?
