so i was taking the system out of my Sunbird, i noticed that when i hooked up my amp about a year ago (i was a bit more uninformed, etc. than i am now) but it seems i wired the amp with 4ga power wire, but for some reason i grounded it with 8ga wire.. which definately doesnt make sense but for whatever reason that's what i did, lol.

so i went to my first SPL drag over the weekend, scored 135.6dB with 1 12" pioneer and ~800RMS amp. if i had this amp properly grounded i know it would be alot better for the amp probably, also would i have scored any better? either way, first thing i am going to do when i install my gear into my other car is ground it with 4ga wire right off the bat. was just curious if i would notice alot performance wise if it was grounded correctly in the first place?
thanks!

For some reason, most amp install kits include a smaller ground then power. If you really want to maximize you spl, ground directly back to the battery.

you don't need to ground directly back to the battery for a 4ga wire, I guarantee that the frame of the the car has less resistence then a 15ft run of 4ga

Rule of thumb is always use the same size wire for ground as power.

yeah i have a 2ohm load on the amp now so it's around 800RMS, once the system goes into my other car tho the 1st thing i am going to do is replace that 8ga... and that's probably why i did it too, the stupid kit came with 8ga ground lol. still tho even last year i shoulda picked up on that.

thanks for the replies guys!
