Sony XDP 4000X
Sony XDP 4000X
Is this a stand alone unit or does it only work with a Sony head unit? Does anyone know where I can find an owner's manual online? If you have one please email it to me maxyott@hotmail.com

I assume you're considering to buy one. Anyways, make sure you know what you're in for. I owned one of these and it was a love/hate relationship. Things I loved was; the ability to tune it off a laptop with a full sized screen where I could see everything at once. The transparency of the C90 head unit...... it sounded awesome, hide away processor. Things I hated; C90 head unit display was a total piece of @#~%!#^! crap. When the moon was shining at night, you couldn't read it....... it was that sh!tty. The processor abilities were limiting. There was a site online where these guys were building updated software to reprogram the 4K but nothing ever bore fruit. It would have been awesome if it happened. Did I mentioned the C90 display was TOTAL JUNK.
Anyways, I sold it after the the C90 display drove me totally insane. IF you REALLY want this setup, I believe the older Sony C910 head unit is a better choice display wise (!?!). Also, be very careful on pricing. These are from way back and bit and most will have mileage on them.......... thus may cause you to need to get the head units serviced to make sure they work correctly. Anyways, price wise, you can get a used Pioneer P9 combo for $1300 CAN and up depending on condition, maybe even less.............. which TOTALLY smokes the Sony setup and is newer. Also you can combine the Alpine H700 with one of the Alpine decks for a brand new setup for not too much more.
Ok, online manuals, never seen them for this setup. Not sure if they are available.
As for stand alone, I don't believe it is, but not sure on that either. I've never heard anyone using a 4K with another head unit. Maybe someone else can clarify that one.

I have the C90 & 4000X combo and as far as I know the C90 will only work with this DSP. I love the system but as others said the C90 is a bitch to read in the daytime...but I use the joystick that comes with the C90 and I don't even need to look at the screen.
Things I don't like about the 4000X is that x-over points are VERY limited. It a very nice setup with infinite adjustability (other than the x-over points).
Here is a link to the most info you'll find on the net about the 4000X web page...and you have to scroll down to the Service Manuals section to download the manual. Good luck.
