I've never seen a door panel that you couldnt get at the outer skin(doesnt mean they dont exist however), if you can fit you hand in a hole, cut the mat about 6 inches by 6 inches then fold it in half and put it in there, overlap each piece by about a half inch and away you go....takes me about 6 hours to do a door start to finish though so not sure you want to take my advice on it.

Does the whole outer panel need to be done or should I do just the parts that are accessible through the holes?

I have a 12 year old GM so I don't mind trying anything on it, I use spray rubber undercoating on the inside of the door panels, just put the windows up and spray on a coat, let it dry a bit, spray another coat, put the windows up and down on occasion to make sure there is no problem... I guess if you build it up enough you may need/want to unplug or drill new drainage holes in the bottom of the door itself... for 3 bux a can I found it to work very well
