sparx and smoke n stuff.....

So I'm driving way too fast on a nearby roundabout and someone cuts me off, i slam on my brakes and my car fishtails violently.
Tunes were cranked and when this happens my front speakers cut out and the bass keeps going strong, so thinking the amp overheated i turned it down to see if the amp kicks back in, no go.

this is where things get weird (for me) i get back to work and open my trunk, something knocked the remote wire of my front stage amp, no biggie, i just put it back on. I go in the car and start it up getting ready to turn on the deck to see if everything works i think to go in the trunk and make sure both amps have power lights and no protection lights. I pop the trunk and my subs were like breathing in and out slowly but to full excursion each way(no sound coming from them or music going to them) (deck still isnt on at this point) so i quickly jump in and turn the car off. go back to the trunk and completely disconnect my front stage amp (i felt this was the offender due to remote wire n stuff) then turn my key back on just to hear sizzle sizzle pop and smoke (still deck is off) and both subs are cooked. thinking well okay at least i figured out the problem i'll just rehook my front amp and at least have tunes up front for now so i completely dissconnect my sub amp and reconnect my front amp then turn the key on then sizzle sizzle pop!...there goes my front speakers (6.5 rainbows)....i took the two amps in to a shop for testing but i have a headache trying to figure this stuff out. I've since checked all the wiring in my car (with a multimeter and test light)and it all seems fine.....

sorry this was so long, just trying to be detailed......any ideas whatsover what could have happened?

...the whole subwoofer pulsing slowly in and out thing has be baffled completely.....

thanx in advance for any help.

IMO it sounds like you lost a ground somewhere.

zzzzzzz: Amps are sitting in the trunk, not mounted but held in place (they didnt move) a tool bag moved and knocked the remote wire off. (cant take pics, amps are in the shop)

grounds were tested, i have a second battery in the trunk so the 0/1awg is not long and easy to trace, the DMM shows the ground to be fine.

DuKK: What makes you say its a ground issue?....is that what would happen if a ground was bad (i mean the speaker "breathing"?)

Well, generally, if you get speaker motions like that it means that voltage is moving on the RCAs. Usually this is caused by a component with no/poor ground that is hunting through the preamp section for ground somewhere. For example, something like losing the ground on your deck or highs amp can cause this on the sub amp.

I have also seen a pinched or grounded speaker or RCA cable cause similar problems but usually the 'breathing' is much more violent, aka motorboating.

wow, does sound about right!....i guess the breathing was kinda violent as in very forceful and it was going in all the way and then out all the way, took about a full second to do the whole stroke (seemed slow to me).....time to check more than i have already....thanx a lot for the input...I'll post up some findings (or none)...

so, if the remote wire that popped off hit an rca end (only thing near it).....could this have caused all this?.....and if so, i thought the remote wire was very low voltage, could it still have dammaged something?...thanx

P.S. subs that got cooked were the jl 12w3v3's in my sig.....

You could of fried rca output on the deck. I had this happen to my premier deck way back in the day. change source, make sure HU is okay.
your scenario is not exactly the same as mine, but checking that isn't a big deal.

and that sucks man.

sorry im having a dinner so cant concentrate on reading, so you did turn off the deck. so i think it's safe to assume deck is okay.
