I have an '05 Toyota Tacoma doublecab with the stock single CD HU. I want to replace the front speakers with 6.5" components, leave the stock rear speakers and not use a sub. So without a sub I want to get as much bass out of the front components as I can.

One set of speakers I have been looking at are Pioneer TS-C160R, freq. resp.: 25Hz - 32kHz. Almost anything else I've looked at have a freq. resp. starting at above 40Hz. Just going by these numbers isn't the Pioneer going to produce more bass with all other conditions equal? I haven't got the option of listening to each to compare.

I have also been looking at Elemental Designs stuff. I like the eDi 6000s components and wouldn't mind putting 2 Eu-700 MidLFE in the back doors when they become available. The NINe.4 amp looks like a good setup for me too.

I haven't got my heart set on any speaker. My goal is to keep the truck looking stock, good sound quality not load booming noise. I want to spend <$250.00 on the front components.

Opinions, suggestions? Thanks.

I suggest you look at Phoenix Gold ZR components. They will provide you with some tight response, and bass that you want. They also come with silk dome tweeters, and a nice set of xo's. If you plan on running components off the HU amplifier, im sure you wont get what your looking for. A small amp with these components would give you want you want. around 70x2 would be nice

Don't look at specs....put that sheet up to your ear and tell me how it sounds. There are lots of speakers available in this price range, as pointed out above, will you be using an amp on them?

Thanks. I'm thinking of using a 4 channel amp, 2 channels to the Mids and 2 to the tweets. I would like to find an amp with speaker level inputs so I don't have to install a line converter too.

I held both sheets up, one to each ear, can't hear a difference I realize that spec sheets don't mean much, I've worked in computers for 15 years, you can write any number you want on there.

The problem is I can't find a local dealer that has speakers on the board that I want. One of the biggest audio stores here only has Clarion and Alpine. The best Alpine components he has in stock are the SPS series, and about 20% overpriced. The only other choices I can find are places like Future Shop. Anyone here from NB or NS got any ideas of where to shop?

Lots of places in Halifax. I can think of three on Kempt alone. That's a three hour drive for you so you might want to make some calls first. Try checking out the Low Motion forum's audio section for some local business names.

The bass you'll end up with has more to do with the install than the components you choose. Bass comes from the box, so plan to spend a good deal on getting all you can out of whatever you choose.
Sealing the door, sealing the speaker gasket to the door panel, and dynamatting the panels, will all lower the response of your driver.
Check out the Fusion FPC-65's Response is stated as 60 Hz, But they have as much bass as the Pioneers in my board, handle LOTS of power, and sound very nice for a decent price.
Use the cash you'll save on a better install, and more power...150/ch would be good with no subs.

Just so you guys know, even 1" tweeters can produce bass notes. You just won't see it or hear it with the naked eye/ear.

I'm just emphasizing the point here on "specs mean nothing".

Thank you for the response. I do intend to seal and deaden the doors. I figured the specs didn't mean much but it's hard to choose a component without actually hearing them.
I have decided to use a Line Out Converter, a NE-774V to get a cleaner signal to the amp.
There are so many brand names now that I've never heard of, Fusion, MA Audio, Diesel Audio, Alphasonik, Hifonics, Profile, ... They all look like good stuff but I don't really know. One thing that bothers me about the first three is that they don't have manual downloads on their web site. To me this is very basic customer support.

I contacted AVI, $999.00 a pair for 6.5" Direct (BSM). I'm asking about $250.00 speakers and you advise me to get $1000.00 speakers? Why don't I just hire the band?, It may cost a little more but the sound quality should be good
