RE: SQ AMPS /NAKAMICHI AMPS , PA504 & PA1002

Hi guys.

I thought I would post some pics of a pair of amps Im using for a SQ build. I popped the bottoms off of these NAKAMICHI AMPS , PA504 & PA1002 and they look incredible. These are made by Steven Mantz of ZED Audio at the peak of his success. I have been speaking with Steve Directly and he tells me that these are some of his finest work and easily some of the best pure SQ amps he has built. Drastically underrated and built with the highest quality of components available.

Here is the run down on them

NAKAMICHI PA1002

This amp is a tank and weights more than any amp I have picked up of its dimensions. It has a very thick heatsink as you can see from the penny on the picture of the profile. The boards are just perfection with beautiful lay out and solder joints. ZED told me that these are fully regulated and will produce much more power than rated at 1% thd than the spec rating at 12.4v 0.05 THD. These are pure SQ amps..

100x2 @ 4ohm 12.4v 0.05% THD
200x 2 @ 2 ohm 12.4v 0.05% THD
400x 1 @ 4 ohm 12.4 0.05% THD

ZED said at 1% clip will produce 30-40% more power

those are OK....
I ran them for a while but I had problems with them over heating on long drives

I have since moved on to the Soundstream Reference amps , they are built like tanks
to...the inners are a work of art ..and have not over heated at all yet..even in 40*
weather....so far they are some of the nicest SQ amps I have
owned....
second to the Harmon/Kardon CA series amps that were pure class A..my all time favorite

it's getting harder and harder to find nice amps with out dishing the big $$$$
