Duty is 6.1%. There are tax implications for items that fall under the FTA - basically you're responsible for paying PST/GST on items imported too.
If a company has an exclusive deal with a Canadian supplier, they probably won't ship to Canada, in order to force you to deal with the supplier(s).
I've imported a LOT of stuff into Canada over the years.

In addition to the 6.1%, most shipping companies will charge a "Brokerage Fee", which is a fee you pay because the company will front the duty fees for you and therefore charge you a premium on it. Its all over the UPS website as well.
UPS: Rates for Customs Clearance into Canada
So for an $800 ish product, you would be paying an additional $61.40 on top of duties. DHL is like this too. I ordered a product worth $12.00. I paid about $13 to have it shipped here, and DHL charged me an additional $9.50 for these fees. That is simply the cost of importing, buy local to save yourself the headache lol.
