1st statement "Some sort of absorbsion/deflection is needed to eliminate the backwaves of the speaker from affecting the performance of the driver."
2nd statement "What is the sense in getting a quality driver if you put it in a substandard instalation?"
2nd statement- excellent point
1st statement- the back wave is an essential part of ANY speakers performance you DO NOT want to eliminate back waves you want to control their affects. The back wave will affect EMF and CEMF (frequency dependant impedance) on the electrical side. On the mechanical side :Q, added coloration's, frequency biased output limitations (over or under damping the enclosure) are backwave artifacts. The SPL guys deal with this too, by sizing the box correctly they boost their burp freq while other frequencies suffer.
