each sub's voice coil in parallel = 2ohm persub.
Both subs in parallel = 1 ohm total.

4 ohm + 4ohm= 2 ohm parallel(+ to +, - to -), and then two 2ohm subs wired parallel yield; 2 ohm + 2ohm = 1 ohm.

Can you show me a wiring diagram on how to do that? Because what i'm getting from that is...I have to wire it up twice to acheive 1 omhm? Kinda confused, since the subs are 4ohm, make them paralell = 2ohm, but the amp is 1ohm

Can you show me a wiring diagram? Thanks.

sure go to this link:

Rockford Fosgate® - Woofer WiringWizard

you need 2 dual voice coil 4 ohm subs, actually it's very simple...all + from subs to + on amp, and all - from subs to - on amp will yield a 1ohm load with 2 dvc 4ohm subs.

Going by that it sounds like I have to wire it up twice...

4 ohm + 4ohm parralel = 2ohm. But the amp is 1 ohm, can you draw me a diagram by channce? lol, thanks

exactly! look at the link it has a diagram if you scroll down a couple of clicks. Anyway, the subs come with plenty of diagrams on how to hook them up. All I'm telling you is that you need to get 2-dual voice coil 4ohm subs ( SWR-1242D) in order to get a 1 ohm load. If you decide to get the Alpine subs, those are the ones you need to get, if you get the dual 2ohm versions, you can't wire it for a 1 ohm final load (not 2 of them anyway, 1 yes, 2 nope).

oh ok makes sence, so if I get the alpine type r's make sure I get 4ohm ones, not 2 ohm ones.

Awesome, thanks.

Definitly did help, found a deal for 2 12" type R's (4ohm each, dual VC) for $214, 60$shipping. Will get that within the next few days, just need to find an amp (the one suggested before, i'll try and get that)

As far as a box goes, i'm going to go sealed. Looking at alpines enclosure specs..if I have 2 subs instead of one, do these measurements double? I have a friend whos pretty savy at this stuff, but I can't get a hold of him so i'm just wondering.

And the way i'm designing this subbox...and the things i'll be attaching to it after its in my trunk - it's going to take these bastard thieves half an hour to figure out how to get the box out.
