I just got my 2 12" Infinity perfect dual voice coil subs installed in my grand cherokee. The subs sound great but when i put the volume about half way they make a popping noise on beats. The subs are in the manufacturers recomended 1 cu. ft box volume and are being run at 4 ohms with 300 watts to each sub. Is this normal for brand new subs or should i be concerned?

I don't think that sounds normal. My guess is you have the subs wired wrong! But I guess for anyone to make a perfect diagnosis you would really have to hear them playing. But if they are making a funny noise I would bet they are not wired right! Re-check your wiring. It could also be your amp having a problem. Someone else may be able to touch on this better though!

You could have your gain turned up too high which is sending distorted output to the subs, which sometimes sounds like popping when the bass hits hard. Other than that, I dont know.

Bottoming out basically involves the VC former smacking the back of the magnet. Often makes either a loud ting, or a thwack sound. Not healthy.

popping...

Yeah as already posted I'm sure it's because your gains are set way too high. If the subs don't seem to get any louder when you turn it up before they pop it's gotta be the gains. hope it helps...

help me find an hcca 12d PLEASE!!

It may be tinsel lead slap, I had this problem with some of the Ref series Infinitys at mid volume levels, when the bass is not loud enough to mask the slap noise. Not sure how to solve the problem with the perfects, with the ref series, I just bent the connectors down slightly( effectively creating a little more distance from the cone to the tinsel). You must be careful not to bend it too much, or it could snap the tinsel due to limited travel. In my case, as long as the seat back was up(subwoofers isolated), the noise was not audible. It was never an issue as far as performance, reliability, or SQ was concerned...as long as the seat was up.
