Recently got a JL Audio 10" W3v3-4 paired with Hifonics 1000.1d Amp.
It is in a 1.1 cubic foot ported box and my head unit is an Alpine CDE-147BT.
The sub is playing but not very loudly. The subwoofer itself barely flinches playing a bass note. Anyone have any ideas?

 

Is it wired properly? The coils should be in parallel and make sure they are the same polarity. Even the best mess this up sometimes.

If the above is all good, make sure the amp has a good ground with good wire , a good heavy power cable, and that the gain is set properly.

 

Thank you for the reply. And the subwoofer is a single voice coil so there is only one way to wire it I believe. What is the polarity? Sorry, I am new to this.

 

Polarity when" in phase "means that the positive and negative lead of the subwoofer is wired to the positive and negative lead of the amplifier. When the polarity is in phase the sub will push outwards, out of phase the sub pushes in ward. Easiest thing to do is get a 9 volt battery and on the sub lead at the amp(disconnected from the amp of course) touch the positive speaker wire lead to the positive lead on the battery and simply tap the negative lead to the battery and see what way the sub pushes. If it pushes out then your in business if it pushes in then switch the leads.

 

It appears the polarity is correct. Adjusted my gains though and re-positioned the box and I definitely notice a difference. It sounds much better than before.
