sub and SQL questions??
#1
hi guys. im new atbox building, and i seen a lot about SQ and SPL, but is SQL very common to use?? is it kinda in the middle of SQ and SPL? if so, doe it lean towards that deep bass, or SQ??
my second question is: regarding SVC and DVC.
now if i have 4 10's, 2 SVC and 2 DVC, what effect would it have on the performance? 2 subs will be going to a JL500.1 and the other 2 the same. 4 subs to 2 amps. now since the JL's are regulated , the subs will get all the amps power i assume. but about the performnace if i put all 4 in a ported box? will it be a big difference from say 4 SVC's or 4 DVC's?? what if i split the box into 2 chambers, then ported each side, with the SVC's on one side, and the DVC's on the other???

you'd need 2 different boxes, otherwise you could seriously damage some stuff. splitting the box would be ok, but I'd recommend selling the 2 SVCs and getting another pair of the DVCs, then run them all in one box.

I would recommend using four identical drivers also.
The term SQL doesn't really exist. "Sound Quality Level" isn't real term but just a slang term I guess. Just a grey area between SQ and SPL and the percentage will vary between everyone in this area.
I'm basically in this area. I want my vehicle to handle any type of material with fidelity but with the ability to turn it up as loud as I could ever want.

I agree, for me it's one camp or another, no sitting on the fence here, it doesn't work.
You can get SQ and SPL (to some respect) if the box is done right, and you have the proper amount and quality of power.
As for a cabinet using multiple drivers, so long as the are the same size and type, you can try all 4 in a dual(sealed) chamber, that houses 2 ea, one driver may be disconnected in each chamber, and used as a quasi passive radiator.
(there are other factors to ponder about, emf .., but that's the Pandora's box.)
