Suggested replacement for a Sony CDX-M9905X?

I'm looking for a little help; I have a Sony CDX-M9905X that is being replaced on the extended warranty. What I need to know is what would be considered an equivalent replacement now that the CDX-M9905X is no longer made. Any help would be greatly appreciated (the dealer is trying to give me a low end pioneer deck).

That is a sweet deck. I have one myself. I would make sure to exchange it for something that still visually appeals to you but is also good quality. JVC, Alpine, SOny I find are good decks. Im not a fan of Pioneer. Also, these days most decks have plugs to plug in an ipod, mp3 player etc. so if you have one of those then try to find a deck that has one

I love the deck, but the buttons have started to stop working or switch functions at random. Inserting a CD resets the buttons and everything works fine for a bit until the unit decides to move the functions of the buttons around.

Here's a picture of what the M9905X and the Panasonic CQ-C5305U that they are trying to con me into taking as an equivalent replacement.

I need all the help I can get, as I am at a disadvantage due to my lack of current knowledge of car audio.

And for what its worth, the Sony cost me $530 (reg. $900) with the $50 extended warranty and the Panasonic is selling for $149. Makes me wonder why anyone would ever buy an extended warranty.

It sounds to me like they are ripping you off. How old is your deck? But like I said, it is also all about personal preference. Im the kind of guy that doesnt like a lot of buttons to be visible so that when the car is off, it gives the impression that there is nothing there. So the Panasonic they are offering you I wouldnt take. The newer Sony Xplod decks are not too bad looking. They all have a lot of buttons on the front but its hard to find anything that doesnt anymore. If I were you, I would try to make the trade for either a Sony, Alpine or JBL. Make sure it is also around the same age as the one your exchanging. Make sure you absolutely like it cuz once you trade it they probably wont let you change your mind a week later. Sorry I cant be more help to you
