Suggestions to get the most out of minimal wattage (subwoofer)
Just curious to see what subwoofer setup you would use to get the most out of 50-100W.
I drive a small car, and need to be able to remove my subwoofer box out of the trunk at any given time. My stock amplifier about 50W, and I have no desire to install/mount an aftermarket amplifier in my trunk, again, I need every square inch of the trunk I can get once I take out the box.
So far I've tried an 8" Kicker C88 in a ported box, and now I have a 12" RE Audio REX in a ported box, sounds even better.
I just wanted to see if anyone from personal experience has any suggestions for a louder setup with minimal wattage. Are there certain models of certain brands that are louder without the need for high wattage? Would 2 10's ported be better?
Thanks.

Hi Erik
What you have now is essentially the best setup you could have for that amount of wattage. The ported box will give you significantly more sound vs a sealed unit.
Something to consider is a custom made box (if you haven't already) built to the manufacturers specs. This will be much louder than your run of the mill pre-fab box.
A sub that is spec-ed for low wattage might be a better option as-well. A smaller magnet could yield more sound due to the speaker needing less wattage to work against the magnet.
As for 2 10's, no. That won't help you. I'll try to explain why. When you double wattage you gain +6db. Likewise when you double surface area (number of speakers) you also gain +6db. but if you add more speakers and each one only gets 25watts(your 50w amp divided by 2) you are still getting the same amount of DB.
1 sub with 1000w will be just as loud as 2 of the same subs with 500w each. The only benefit of 2 subs is more wiring options and less wattage load on each speaker.
Hope that helps ya a little bit.

Thanks for your wisdom! I ordered 2 JL 8W1v2-4 to replace my 1 RE REX 12". The RE is a great sub but like you said, the JLs with a smaller magnet will respond better to lower wattage. I've now opened the doors to adding an aftermarket amp, we shall see!
