Im looking for a new system to purchase. I need help choosing a new HU amp and sub combo. I use to have 2 12" alpine type R's MRD-M300 powering them and a alpine 7893 HU i spent a total of around 2000 for everything. Now i want something a little more powerful and cleaner for around the same price. The car its going in is a 03 grand am with the monsoon system.

im thinking all you probably need is a front end upgrade, or possibly a bit more power.

You might have been happier with the Type R's if you had given them some more power and possibly changed the enclosure.
I would recommend a pair of 12's or a single 15 and look for a sub amp that will do ~1000rms at the desired impedence. With the proper box it should give the desired effect.

There's a huge list of subs I could suggest so do a search and find the one that sounds best for you.

you think the type r's can handle 1000 rms each and still produce a clean sound. If so then im off to apw in chatham tommorow. and about the enclousure the one i had was the Red Alpine one(ported) so if someone has a box recommendation i would appreciate it.

thanks

I don't think they would do 1000rms each safely lol, what I think he meant was get an amp to do about 1000rms and run then around the 500rms range, my had a buddy in chatham that had the Type R's and somehow kept breakin the Tinsel leads.

A friend of mine used to have 2 UDimension 1K's powering his 2 10" Alpine Type R's.

Sounded awesome...he hit 138's in a small box and still competed in SQ comps.

Type R's will take 1KW easily all day long.
