system price

went down to visions today to price out some packages, i was wondering if the price they quoted me was WAY to high, i talked to a guy there sometime after xmas and he quoted me alot more, im new to this so im not sure whats a GREAT deal and what your paying too much for. the package is

1 12" alpine type R
1 ported box
1 amp wireing kit
1 alpine V-power amp
plus 75$ for an install, although im going to do the install myself

anyways he quoted me $775 plus tax, acouple things that make me wonder if this is too high is because when i said oh ok he asked if i thaught that was cheep... and i talked to someone after xmas like a said and something around that i was quoted 500$ now they prob wernt the same but even soo.

another quick question what kind of setup do you have to do to an amp when you have your hole system set up? as in do you have to tune your amp and set it up to the sub and if so how do you go about this.

That seems a little high, depending on what amp it comes with and what kind of warranty it comes with. Also, if possible, I would try to build a box yourself rather than using one of theirs if you can; I have always been very disappointed with the sound from pre-fab boxes, unless it is specifically designed for that sub. As for the amp, you will have to set the gains, which is ideally done using a multimeter, but it can be done by ear if you have to.

What model amp. The price does not seem out of line unless it is an entry level amp..

Check the prices on ebay.

You could save a ton if you built your own box (like 50 bones total for that) and found a cheap wiring kit or bought everything seperate (probably like 30 or so for a complete kit). Go back and see how much it would cost for just the sub/amp combo and go from there.

What store was it? and What salesman?
This sounds about right to me:
Type R 12" - 298 (reg 349)
Mrpm450 - 378
Ported box - 148
Wiring Kit - anywhere from 55-165
You do the math
