Question Which of these 2 speakers is better for me?!

Hey guys, I have an Alpine mrp-f250 amp that I will be using to power my internal speakers. Amp is at 40Wrms or 50Wrms @2ohms

I was wondering a couple of things

1) All things being equal is a 5x7 'better' than a 5.25 round speaker? The 5x7 actually has a little more power handling(75w vs 55w), and a larger tweeter (1 inch vs. 3/4 inch)...
2) Since my power from the amp will be capping off at 40Wrms, will there be a difference in sound quality anyway?

The Speakers are the Alpine Type S 5x7's and 5.25's.

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

my opinion under powering is just as bad as over powering. are you just looking for speakers for your higher frequency? or for your rears? the alpine 5.25" are what i have... soon all around. and they work great for your higher frequency's.

It'll mostly be for highs, as i'll have a 12' type R sub. This amp is all I could afford at the time so under powering is my only option... well that or running it off my head unit.

For the rears I have Alpine Type S 6.5's (which are capable of power handling way more than either speakers) which'll also be getting the same amount (40Wrms)

so, what do you guys think
5x7 vs 5.25...

... ok let me git this straight. you have a type R with a proper amp powering it yes? and then the 6.5's in the back powered off of deck power? or do they have their own amp? I'd say go with the 5.25's I'm happy with mine for highs and havn't had any problem. as to why I'm putting them in the back as well.

I'm assuming your car is a Ford? 5x7's will allow a 'drop in' fit. 5.25s will require modifications. 5x7s are every bit as good as 5.25's, and would be my choice in any Ford vehicle.

if its not for sick sound quality the 5x7 will be good. more cone area so it will have a bit better midbass than the 5.25

btw the older mazda has 5x7 eh not just ford

Go to a shop and take a listen to the two of them. I don't know what it is but the only type s speakers I like to listen to are the 5x7s.

5x7" is where I would go. You can underpower a speaker all day long as well so don't worry about that either. Why only those two speakers when there are so many more available to you?

Firstly, It's for a '97 Jeep TJ (wrangler) and all 4 speakers would run off a 4 channel amp.
6.5's in the rear and still not sure what to get up front, but leaning more towards the 5x7's now...

The reason I'm going for these Alpine products is because I'm getting a great deal on them.
