Trying to understand amplifier settings. help!

I have a sony xplode cdxgt240 head, a 300.1 amp with LPF freq, input level and bass boost and 1 12" alpine type r with 2 ohm impedance.

I blew my rf p2 out so I wanna make sure i don't make the same mistake here.

input level 250mv to 4v (the preout voltage on the head is 2v, so should I set this at 5oclock to make sure it's not clipping? or am I looking at the wrong voltage)

LPF frequency is 32 - 320 so I set this around 4 o clock and bass boost I currently have at 0.

On the head I have my lpf filter to 80 and my hpf to 120 and the phase thingy is set to normal instead of reverse.

what tweaks should i do to ensure I don't blow out this sub.

Really, nothing on the amp is going to ensure you won't smoke your sub. Knowing to turn it down when it sounds bad is the key to not blowing up speakers

Thing is, I don't know when it sounds bad. I'm a guitarist so when I hear the term 'distortion' i think of something completely different. Or it isn't something i've heard yet LOL.
