Tuning a Port?

Ok so i have decided to try and build a ported box... i have looked around and came up w/ 24 cubic inches of port space x 16 inches should match my box... now what i dont get is it says it should be tuned to 40 hz... how do i acomplish that?

What are you trying to achieve? How big is the box? What sub? What car?

i just though that i would give a ported box a try...
the box would be about 1.5-2 cu ft per sub on each side, its gettin a boston acoustics G5 10" on each side, and its goin in a mustang
