depends on budget and available space. buying one good sub is pretty much always a better option than buying 2 mediocre subs to fit a pre-set budget. Also space is the next factor.

What are you looking to achieve with this setup.. maximum SPL, great sound quality..somehwere in the middle?

as with the previous reply, here are a couple more questions to add, if this is going to be a musical setup what style of music do you listen to and what type of vehicle is this for?

As for space, its going into the back of an explorer so there is no real problem for that. budget i was looking into spending no more then 600$ total ( amp , sub/s and wiring) to the last question, the middle, but more lean toward SPL if possible

EDIT: Good timing lol , both sets of qestions asnswer there, and for music rap / minimum techno

well with the dollar figure you had quoted I would lean towards a single driver so one 15. Be sure to do some research on the gear you want to choose, is the $600 dollar mark set in stone? I personally have some sub amps for sale that may work out in your world. If your interested send me a pm. I know your a fair distance away but it's the thought that counts

Here's what I'd do....

For a start, I'd scoop up the fresh recone 15" TF One that in our FS section. Serious value and an excellent subwoofer.

Then buy wiring, RCA's, connectors, etc individually from somewhere like Princess Auto. Much better value than buying the stereo kits.

Then take what you have left over (maybe save a little more) and buy a 1500-2000rms amp (many FS on here), get someone to design you a good enclosure for that sub/ride and you'll be REAL HAPPY.

Explorers have a fairly good alt. I think you'd be O.K. with the big 3. Maybe an eventual better battery. I've got about 3K and run a C.T. eliminator battery.
