Upgrading Factory System in Honda CRV

Hay All
Just wondering if anyone has any suggestions on upgrading a factory system in a Honda CRV.
Good Ipod Integration is a must as is easy access to radio presets.
I am considering an Alpine CDA 9886 head unit, Hertz 165 component speakers and an Audison SRX 2.1 Amp all for $1500.
Any help would be appreciated.

are you looking for a complete system or just the HU, front speakers and amp?

I was looking primarily for a HU and was debating between swapping out my front and rear speakers as well as getting an amp, but after talking with the salesman, he was saying that your primary sound is from your front speakers anyways and so he recommended just to upgrade the front speakers and get a 2 channel amp to power those. I was not interested in any subs or anything like that.
Any suggestions?

I really like my CDA-9886. I like having USB & iPod control as different sources.
One thing that doesn't come in the box is a USB extension (but they can be had for very little $$$)
The Pioneer's you need to switch back and forth manually.
Easy to use and function over form.
Dont just buy something cuz it looks good.

The sales guy has a point, your ears are designed to hear sounds coming from in front of you.
So changing the front speakers is the best thing to do if you're on a budget.
I cant tell you how many times I've had some one come to me, wanting 6x9's in their cavalier or sunfire so they could have better sound.

I myself dont even have rear fill. But I do have a close 1100W on my front end.

I like kenwood deck. I just bought a new one, when it comes to plugging in my ipod it's simple. just plug and play, you don't need to buy any extra cord or anything, and of course everything is run off the HU. all you have to do is run the cord to where you want it. I ran mine into the glove box.

Well, you're on the right track with Hertz components, I like High Energy series and up, and Srx amps are horrible, for a little extra cash get a used Lrx. All including a deck can be had for under $1500. System without a sub is not much improvement though. All you need is a 12" sub designed to work in small enclosure of 1 cube or smaller, and 500 watts to power it. You may want to consider getting a sub, if you're going to wire in an amp anyways. On a budget, I would look into a used 4-channel amp like Fosgate Punch 800.4 or similar power wise. Use 2 channels for front speakers, and bridge the other two to run a sub. In this case, most likely you need to make sure the sub has final load impedance of 4 ohms, so a single voice coil 4 ohmer, or a dual voice coil 2 ohmer.

I have a set of Hertz 3 way components. I can't remember what series they are anymore, and I can't find info on them online. Anywho, they sound amazing, I would buy them again.

Pioneer and their Premiere line or Kenwood and the Excelon line both make some top notch units for a cd player. Eclipse makes a head unit that will deliver stunning results, however, to use IPOD it needs a interface module. Bluetooth built in however is certainly nice on the Eclipse.

Morel (Morel ® Loudspeakers) make some incredible speakers, if detail is what you are after, look into these speakers.

For speakers, while a salesperson might say that your front speakers are the most important and concentrate on them, it is also what you prefer. While I tell a customer the exact same thing, I will also at the same time tell them that my ears prefer rear speakers as well. If you like your vehicle right now with rear speakers, do not leave them out of the new system.

For power, 50w rms per channel is going to be more than enough for you to get a comfortable listening level. You will go far further by investing in better speakers or a cd player than you will in a more expensive amplifier.
