USB port question

Hello,

On most cars older than a couple of years the USB port is usually rated for 1 amp, if that. Does anyone know if these ports can be swapped out with a USB port of higher amperage?? I realize most ppl skip using the USB port & just utilize the cig lighter with those USB adapters for higher amp needs like fast charging. But I have a broken USB port on a friend's Murano and since I was going to swap it out anyhow, I figured to inquire. I know those ports are usually for aux audio or usb audio as well, but he doesn't care about that, so loss of that function doesn't matter. I am assuming the wire that goes into these ports are 12 volts (5v output obviously) but anyone know what the wiring's amp capacity usually is and/or is it on a shared circuit because the port only needs 1 amp? Perhaps varies by car, but would love to get your thoughts/info.

I scoured the net, couldn't find much info.
