I am starting to plan the first install for my 2000 jetta (new body style). Is there any wierd things to look out for??
I have heard there alts are small is this true?
I will upgraded it anyways as I will probably end up running 2200+ watts

I would be surprised if there was a factory alt that could keep up.
Also anyone ever tried to put a PG 9" midbass driver in the door?
Also if anyone knows of used kick panels let me know as I would be willing to buy a set of reasonable quality ones.

hey man.
have you tried www.vwvortex.com
I have an 88 jetta. I have seen people do 8" in the doors of their mk IV (your year) Jetta. Involved some cutting and fabbing, but it is apparently doable.

Gmac,
You certainly can fit 8's in there. But you'll need to cut. The jetta and golf both have ample mounting depth.
I got 3 6.5" drivers in each door with a bit of modification and depth was no huge issue.
There really is no real install hurdle in that car you'll need to overcome just the fact that the rear deck is a total piece of crap and stuffing it is about the only cheap way to make it shut up.
Cut some metal and enjoy
