what is a Capacitor for and should I get one?

The purpose of a cap is to supply power for brief periods of time when the voltage supply to the amp drops. The voltage drop can be due to insufficient alternator output, weak battery, poor conduction of current to the amp, and poor grounding among other problems. Fixing the cause of the voltage drop rather than adding a cap is where your money is better spent. A cap is a band-aid solution and is often more expensive than fixing the problem.

I've heard 3 different systems with one of those amps running a 2ohm load....each one played for hours without any heat issues and the birth certificates averaged around 375w or so.....it might not be as stellar as you'd like for that sub but the owners seemed pretty happy with them.....
Aside from the fact the sub can handle twice the power I'm not seeing a problem.....
To the OP, if you're not seeing any headlight problems when the system is running, your electrical system is strong enough to handle the amp. If you are, go look at this thread and get those wires done first. It will cost you much less than a cap and will do a better job not only for the stereo but your car in general............ BTW, I am assuming you are running at least 4ga power and ground wire to the amp...if not, you should.
Any other questions, get back to us.........
