Question

Hey Guys,

I am pretty set on what I am going to be putting in my car and I just wanted some suggestions and input on it. The setup should look a little something like this -

Audio
-Eclipse 8443 HU
-CDT HD-642 3-way component set up front in angled pods fro proper sound staging
-USamps TU-600 or similar amp for components (150+ x 2 wrms)
-Eclipse 18inch Titanium Pro sub
-USA-2000 (close to 3000 wrms continuous watts)

Other
-H/o alt that does 150amps when car has some decent rpms going and I think 70-100amps when at idle
-Optima yellow top under hood(upgrade battery ground, alt ground, alt to battery etc.
-All stinger wiring components, d-blocks and fuse holders(1/0 from battery to trunk
-brush on sound deadener thats better than dynamat extreme

I will be installing the sub in the trunk in around a 4-4.5 cube fiberglass enclosure. Now I want to tune to around 30-34Hz so I am trying to figure out what hte best size port would be to use(diameter). Any suggestions are welcome for my setup.

Thanks

I don't think you are going to have enough bass with that setup, better get two 18's.... If you want to do a box 4.25 cubic feet, tuned to 32hz, it will be somewhere in the neighbourhood of three 4" diameter ports 19" long, or two 4" ports (might be noisy, not sure??) 11.4" long, or a single 6" port 12.25" long, or a slot port 5.3"x5.3"x12.2" long. Not sure how big of a port you need for such a rwody sub, probably the bigger the better??

If you want to get 3000 RMS you are going to need more than 150 amps...

You may need to rethink the subs again, IMO I think you are better off using a pair of 12's maybe some D2's or 12A.22s or 13W7s. Those would get loud.

JeepBeats - Yeah I dont know maybe I should get another TiPro cause 1 18 would never be enough bass. I am looking for a good port diameter and length so that I wont have to deal with alot of port noise. The specs you posted look good but I have been told that I shouldnt use 4" ports with such a big sub? I dont know how true that is but who knows. Thanks for the input man, do you think my front stage will be able to keep up with my bass? I dont expect to have the gains on the USA-2000 cranked .

namster- Well I know the USA-2000 is rated for max 300 amps of current draw and the component amp should be around 70-100amps of current. I dont think that I will ever be pulling that much current from the amps unless i crank the gains. I would get a higher output alt but that is the most output i could find online. I may talk to Dominik and see if he can custom build me one. Yes 2 12's would probably be better and smarter but for the price I payed for this sub I couldnt even afford a 13W7. My buddy has a 12A and that thing pounds really nice, if i was gonna go with eD I would get 2 15A's ported with 3000 wrms to the pair.

anymore input?

Scarlem, I have never had a system with anything even approaching that much power in it, so I am not sure how the fronts will keep up. Doesn't "Pimpin'Dodge"(old username) from AB have an Eclipse Ti sub? Maybe he can give you some more info on it.

Yeah,

his new board name I am pretty sure is Gilligans Hitch and I know he has a 15TiPro so I am gonna be talking with him aswell. I know he is running his in an SPL box, but he can still help. I figure any USamps amp rated for 150 x 2 @4ohms is probably gonna be doing around 200 x 2 @4ohms real power so it should be able to keep up once tuned properly.

Does anyone have any complaints about my system?

or

Does anyone think my system is gonna be awesome if installed right?

You already know what i think of your set-up I would be worried about port noise. Talk with that busy guy that sold it to ya, i'm positive he can design ya an enclosure that will fit your tastes. Your fronts should keep up, and then some. I would throw an extra battery in the mix.

DWVW - I didnt know that amps can draw max current with the gains down, thanx for the info. This is going to be a daily driver setup and I only intend on hitting a few comps to get metered and to check out other peoples installs etc. Do you think I should look into getting a 200amp alt or something in that range?

Gilligans Hitch - I dont really want to have to run an extra battery in the mix which is why im planning on using the optima yellow top under the hood. I have alwys been a hater of caps but if I notice that on big bass hits i am dimming alot i could always look into one of those. I am worried about doing a custom fiberglass enclosure and getting it finished and then hooking it all up and have nasty port noise kill the whole install.

What would you guys recommend for length if I wanted to use 2 or 3 6 inch ports?

what are you driving, hopefully a domestic, because HO alternators are way cheaper than one for an import. But if you are going to be competing an alternator does nothing. Most of the times your car is not running, so charge that yellow top.
