at higher volumes the midrange is starting to break up. it's perfect at lower volumes. like im talking at 25-24 it breaks up, but at 22 it's sounds fine. the only thing i could think of was loose wires. also, this is not my car, and i haven't heard the system myself, so im doing the best i can to discribe what they told me. trying to help out someone i know. thanks

What type of speakers are they?? What is their recommended power rating?? Are they running off of an amp or the head unit?? If they're running off an amp, then make sure that the gain is set properly.

sorry, they are running off a high model clarion deck. rockford fosgate 6 1/4's up front and 5x7's in the back. i told him to check for loose connections, but i don't know what else might cause it other than damaged equipment. thanks

or it coudl be just distortion. decks do not have good enough amps on them for my personal taste. too little power. you arnt goign to get decent midrange out of a 30 rms per channel built in amp.

I agree with RedZone, you're not going to get enough power to juice those speakers with just deck power. Most decks can only put out about 17 watts rms x 2 channels. You definately need more power than that. When you turn up the volume on the deck past a certain level, you are inducing distortion into the speakers because the deck amplifier is trying too hard and thus the speakers will distort and sound like $hit. Your friend should get an outboard amp to power his speakers and hopefully that will solve the problem.
