Does your car have door speakers or dash speakers or both (depends on trim level of vehicle). Appears to be a 6x9" in the rear shelf. Confirm what you have for speaker location and size. A great start to the system is the Eclipse CD5030 for the head unit. Blutooth and USB on board and it is the starting point of a great system.

 

the speakers arent in dash, its got door speakers, and yes, 6x9s in the back. would component or coaxial be best?

The head unit is a A2DP and has a outboard microphone for it as well. Front speakers you can either go component or a darn good coax, rear speakers keep it simple with a 6x9". Is your existing subwoofer a single or dual voice coil model. If it is a dual voice coil model, assuming it is a dvc 4 ohm, that is all your amplifier could support. If it is single 4 ohm, then your amplifier can support another subwoofer that is exactly the same. (if it is still available). You need to next confirm the subwoofer, find out exactly what it is.

Chances are that if you want a second sub you are going to need a new amp to use on the subs. The old amp can continue to run the front and rear speakers just fine. I would use the existing amp for now and then in the future add the second sub in and the new sub amp. If I were in your shoes, I would use the existing amp and sub I have now or sell the sub and get a new dvc 4 ohm or a pair of svc 4 ohm subs and use it off of the amp you have now and call it a day. The box will make or break the performance of any sub you use, are you able to build your own box?

 

at the moment, i dont have any means of making a box, kind of just moved out on my own and have no tools :P

that head unit is a 4x50w channel unit correct? i could keep my amp for only my subs and just use the Head to run the other speakers?

 

Your amp is a 5 channel amp, it is designed to run a complete system so there is no point in using the tiny little amp in the headunit. While on paper it is rated at 50w x 4 as most decks are, any head unit is going to struggle to produce 18 w rms x 4 of clean power. There is no way in hell that the tiny little amp in any head unit will be able to keep up with the power available to you by using your JBL amp. Use your amp.

well you guys are all talking about speakers... I'm going to talk head units... I'm a big fan of the Kenwood CD decks, i personally think they deliver some of the best quality for a fair price. Mine isn't on the top of the list but i think it was their third or fourth best deck when i bought it. lots of options, internal crossover, and it also has an optional bypass setting so when you hook up any amps it allows you to bypass the internal crossover so that your amp is doing all the work. overall there good quality and you can choose what you want via what options you want.

Not to be a nit-picker, but the feature you're talking about actually shuts off the internal amp, not the XOver....all the juice is sent to the circuits for the RCA outputs. Keeps the RCAs clean right out to max on the volume ****.....if they start to clip the deck rolls back the voltage until it stops.....smart.....
