I'm running 2 10's right now in a fairly big 2.75 cu ft ported box. The response isn't close to being flat and it's annoying. I want to go a bit bigger, round 4 cu ft tuned to 30 hz with 350 watts going to each. I'm just wondering, will this be too big a box and make them act like there free air and over excursion? There Alpine ZR 10's. Thanks.

P.S. If anyone can run my subs through a program and find out the best box size and tuning frequency for the loudest flat response it would be greatly appreciated.

Just so you know ...

Bigger ported box = peakier response

So you actually want to go smaller with a slightly lower tuning frequency and an EQ (Although most of us can't afford EQs) ...

you would need a MASSIVE port to make 4 cubes work well for 2 10"s...off the top of my head, somewhere around 100-150 sq inch port.

I ran the numbers through BassBox, for extended bass response, it suggests 2 cubic feet for the pair, tuned around 33hz. It would look like this with 400 watts going to them:

I also have the box spec file from the Alpine website, if you want me to email it to you. Looking at their box recommendations, it would appear that the biggest ported box size they recommend would be around .85 cubic feet per sub. Hope this helps!

This is what 4 cubes, slot ported and tuned to 30hz with 350 watts a sub would look like:

Hey thanks alot Jeepbeats I really appreciate your help. I think I'm going to go with something along the lines of the 2 cu ft tuned to 33

Jeepbeats I was wondering if you have time could you run my current box through bassbox so I can compare. It's 2.75 cu ft tuned to 39hz with 200 watts going to both (100 each). Thanks alot. Oh how I would love a copy of Bassbox, lol.

The subs are wired individually I assume, not paralleled?

The subs are wired seperately, thanks. The 2 cu ft box tuned to 33 hz with 700 watts seems like a good setup. We'll see how it goes.
