They're also roughly $200 USD or so online. I can also get one after taxes for a touch under $290 CAD just by crossing the border. I'm also waiting on a hard quote for PC2150's from another local retailer that I like dealing with, and he figured $300-350 CAD for one on special order.
Put all this together, yeah I figured $390 CAD looked like too much for a PC1700.
I also didn't make a blanket statement that they overcharge, I looked at the site and thought there was a lot of good deals, but that the Hawker's were way out of line based on what I had seen in my personal experience.

$200 USD for the battery from the US. Which is about $240 US. Now you forgot to add taxes, duty, and shipping.
I know that I purchased a 2150 back when they first came out and shipping/taxes was about $150.
So you're back at about $390. Now tell me again how you figure that GCA is "raping" people? Don't forget that GCA ships anything over $200 for free
You also said that you can jump across the border and pay just under $290 for one. First, remember that not everyone in Canada is able to jump over the border like that. Also, don't forget to add duty which must be paid. You're still not saving yourself the $100 you say GCA is raping from people.
Unless you lie and don't pay the duty, bu that's illegal. Not very fair to compare GCA prices to illegally purchased items.

First off I called Polar today and full retail there is $335. So, I guess either when I went in they offered me a deal last summer, or prices have gone up.
In my hands for $381.90, vs $427.99. $427.99 is GCA + gst, what I would have to pay since I'm out of province. Admittedly not my $100 figure but that's what it was last summer. Plus not really accurate since I'm paying 2 taxes at Polar but only 1 at GCA.
$200 USD online is what they are at some places, then add $45 shipping, then the exchange and taxes.
In my hands for $328.85, vs $427.99
I can pick one up for $230 USD just south of here. Figure exchange and taxes then:
In my hands for $308.71 vs $427.99
I work at the border so you don't need to lecture me about that, hell if I were to buy $3 worth of shoelaces I need to declare them.
Also, there shouldn't be any duty on Hawkers, assuming they are made in the USA like the website seems to say.
I don't want to turn this into a big war. In my opinion one place charges a lot for one friggin item.
This is just the way I shop, but when I buy somthing online I only do it under certain circumstances, either I can't get it locally, or it's enough of a deal that it makes the hassle worth it.
Anyways, when a local shop gives me a price $65 lower than online for anything you can sure as hell bet I'm gonna buy from them. Online should be cheaper, not more.
