i'm confused with the watts!
of coz i would like to pick the good brand, however, around 100 bucks, good brand just can offer like 160w, that's 22wx4 rms, same with my headunit. why should i buy it? it won't power the speakers right and cause the distortion of the sound.

OR, a 22w amp will amplify the signal from HU FURTHER 22w? that's totally different.
I'm confused. pls. give some insights.
thx!
ok..to set you straight! look for the RMS rating of the amplifier, this is the continuous rating, and the more accurate one. Most good brands will give you this rating, and many now have CEA2006(or later) ratings that measure the wattage in a controlled, specified test that allows you to get an "apples to apples" comparison of similar amps(Alpine, Rockfod Fosgate, Kenwood, JBL, etc... are some of the brands that use this new measurement). The peak rating system is typically used by very low end (meaning crappy) manufacturers to trick or fool unsuspecting consumers into thinking their product is more powerful than another company's. Simply put, a 200 watt rms amp from a good brand will be more powerful and last much longer than a 1000 watt peak amp from a flea market brand!!

Seems like the real winners over Pyramid and Profile at the price point. I like the other suggestions people made looking for a quality brand used amp. I would buy a good used amp anytime over brandnew crap.

New suggestion, save up a little more $ and buy a good amp instead of one that is a real shiny turd. Another $70.00 would make all the difference in the world.

Pretty ingorent considering youre comparing a harman kardon company to these other brands, and and cadence which has lines like the ZRS line that would never be able to be had in a flea market.

jdmg - first thing you are going to need to do is educate yourself a little on some things. Start here http://www.canadiancaraudio.com/onli...tart-here.html There are a bunch of links to various car audio websites with a lot of info you need. Take the time to do some reading first then come back if you still have questions. Your first lesson is for crying out loud IGNORE any wattage ratings that are MAX or PEAK. These mean absolutely nothing, just marketing hype. Only go by the RMS wattage retings. You might get MAX power for a brief second as it gets hit by lightning, but you will never get close to it in your car. IMO you are never going to see 22wrms even from your sony head unit. Due to the laws of physics it is rare to get any more than about 12-15wrms from any even the high end head units. Just my $0.02
