Did you try hooking up the amp to see if it is working? That will tell you if the ground is good or not. Shorting the power wire to ground = dumb.....

lol well, if infact he did put the "power wire" on the neg of the battery... and did try and hook his amp up.. might be something bad happening to his amp... i dont know never try this and wont

check to see if there is a fuse in the fuse holder of the 12v (power wire) as well

putting - on the + and - terminals on the amp is the equivalent of not hooking it up at all. No damage. I highly recommend you modify your test methods to touching both wires on your tongue. Its also very effective in the 110v ac domain.

First I've heard of a car not being chassis grounded Did you make sure it is through steel, was the wire on the battery connected to positive like slammed 15 said. ALso you canmake your own ground test light in five min easily outta any bulb really better than arc the wires together and snapping fuses

Take some more time and think about the wiring i guess

Sorry to be the one to say this (I know others are thinking it) but if your method of testing is to touch two wires together and see if there is a spark, you should return all your tools, and never install again.

Sorry for the bluntness of this post.
Like I said I don't own a multimeter... it was like 2am yesterday and where am I going to go to buy one at 2am?

And you're probably thinking this but I don't do a half assed job when installing ****.
</font>
My thought is, You should be sleeping at 2am. just wait untill morning. Being tired, it could be just a minor thing that your overlooking.

Give the guy a break, as mentioned above, He’s on the board looking for help, if you are not willing to give him helpful advice, then why post at all ?..

If he is doing something wrong, or dangerous, just let him know, don’t cut him up like that...
