Where to install high output alternator?
#1
I just bought this 150amp alternator for my 2000 Honda Accord from eBay:
And now I need to find a place to install it preferably in the Mississauga/Brampton area.
I'm also looking for a 4ga cable that the seller recommends installing with the alternator. This is what it looks like:
And this is the description they give of their wire: This new 4 gauge power cable is made with 100% new commercial quality fine stran copper battery cable. The terminal ends are hand crimped and sized and cut to length to fit your custom installation. The terminals are heat shrink tubed and the entire cable is encapsulated with split loom to protect the cable from the elements.
I never bought the wire because it was $25USD and I'm certain some shop can make the same wire from regular 4ga wire at a fraction of the cost.

Its very easy to replace the alternator in the car. For my 3800 series engine in a Olds 88 all I needed was to get a large wrench to take the pressure off of the serpantine belt. Next its just a matter of having the right sockets that fit the bolts on the alternator. Mind you the place where I got my HO alt from provided me with the tools and a little bit of instructions but I got it done by myself easily enough.

pretty much any reputable mechanic should be able to do the install,if you aren't comfortable doing it yourself.as for the cable, you can use 4 guage welding cable from a company like gregg distributers,be sure to use the heavy copper lugs and not the cheaper bulk ones, they break and give an impressive light/smoke/pyrotechnics show shrink the ends and use good quality ties to prevent "shows"from touching sharp edges or hot exhaust etc....an ANL fuse between the batt and alt is also a good idea but use a 300 amp fuse...have fun!!

when i build a 200amp alt it puts out 200 amps hot,and much more when cold.
fuse is for short circuit or reverse boost protection. i suppose since his is only 150, than a 200a fuse will do.

The one I'm talking about is about a foot from the battery on a 4gage wire going to the trunk where the amps are. The alternator does put out 140amps when the engine is above idle.
