the way I always understood it was a lead acid battery (used in 98% of all vehicals) will only charge if the supplied voltage is 14.6 VDC, so if this is true, wouldn't that mean you would have to add resistance to chargeing system if using a gell cell? Personally I've just allways used a deep-cycling battery with 700 cranking amps or higher, and a one farad cappacitor. My lights never dimm, the engine never boggs down and my bass never fades-ever. (this is the same with my protege 5, and my 350 S-truck) plus I can totaly kill'em, and I'll always get my 12.66 VDC, every time. Optima? Glass? Why?

^they will take a longer sustained beating, and are better all around at handling massive amperage loads.
