As I was listening to some chemical brothers while I was writing some code, and I saw my glass of water rippling because of the insane volumes I get out of my Logitech z-560 computer speakers I wondered why it seems so difficult to get this type of performance out of car audio.

The sub looks very high quality when I took the grill off after this curiosity. Huge rubber surrounds and whatnot. But still its an 8" in a little ported box, nothing too special.

I believe the sub has 188W RMS running to it.

What is different aboout car audio that makes it so difficult to get that type of performance at 1) an afordable price, and 2) such a small form factor like my computer sub and still sound great.

Also, my staelite speakers are 3" and they sound like a 5-/14" componenet set. What is up with this?

Where can I get some of these for my vehicle

Sounds like your SUV's audio installation needs work.

well for one thing, the 10's in your car(?) are in the trunk, and the logitech sub is a few feet away from you... go sit in your trunk with the subs playing, and they will sound 'louder'. If you could hear the logitech sub in your trunk, you would see how little effect it would have compared to 2 10's, same with in your house, if you were able to rig it up to your home stereo to see the difference.

As far as the speakers go, well I haven't heard the 5 1/4 you are comparing them to, or the 3" logitechs, but I would be inclined to think that the quality difference you are hearing has to do with the fact that the logitech's are in an enclosure built exactly to spec, where as your 5 1/4 are IB, in a possibly un-dedened door. As well as getting the right amount of power, and being used in a house, opposed to in a car environment.

building enclosures for the speakers in your doors (correctly) would probably yield great improvement over the IB application..

regards, Mark

My system does need some work... deffinitely. As well my vehicle in regards to sound deadening etc.

I dont have 5-1/4" components. I am talking about hearing these compared to say Alpine Type S or R on the showroom floor. They are deffinitely not better, but I can't believe they are evn comparable and able to play such a wide range of sounds despite of their small size.

Good, and obvious point about the sub being so close to me (I rest my feet on the box, haha). My two 10's are in my rear cargo area of my 4runner.

I am actually in the process of installing 6.5" speakers in my doors. I am going to try and to it the best I can.
I dont know how to build an enclosure inside of a door with such limited space, but I will be trying at least.

haha

Hey, with the subs it wasnt so much of an install as it was a drop in sorta thing. It sounds good, but I just want more. The wiring was some work though I remember, but you got it done quickly and di a great job.

But... I want my chest to feel it at least a little!

The box is just not optimal for my vehicle. I know the people that sit in my back seat think its really loud. Its just cuz Im way at the front and they are soooo far back behind me

I think with my new deck it will sound better as well. My deck simply put, sucked. With the sub channel I think that will improve things a lot, as well so much more control over the sound. Cant wait.

I think I want to try making a box with the subs firing up, and the ports firing back.

But then I need to figure out how to make the box, so that its louder then it is now but still has a little bit of punch to it when I turn on the o'l country beats.

Yee haw

Yeah your old deck was very basic, the Alpine will have a stronger signal, not to mention way more tuning options/crossover functions. Porting will help also.

I too own a logitech z560.. The sub is out of control.. so are the satellites.. crystal clear amazing sound at 100 % vol.. Most of the time I don't even have the bass on the remote turned up past 0 and it's still too bassey.

Honestly if you don't know how to do it right, (an aren't going to pay to have it done right) the SQ will probably be worse then if you just went IB with them.... your best bet would be to deaden the door, and sel the panel up as best as you can, and see what that gets you...
