Wire guage for sub?

I have 1 Mach5 MA-12 that I'll be running through an MTX 895.5 with 400-450 watts on the subchannel.

What guage wire do I need considering the nominal power I'm running through it?

I was at Home Depot this afternoon and almost bought some 14guage wire, but wasn't sure if that was low enough.

I need about 24ft(2 lines of 12'), I'm in Burlington.

Michael

14 would work. 12 would be better. 10 would be even better.

I would go 12 for your purpose. 14 is pretty thin for anything.

Yes 12 ft.

I have a 95 Impala SS and have situated the amp on the right side of the trunk on a prefab'd panel I just cutout to fit within the quarterpanel. The sub and sealed box will sit on the opposite side of the trunk, just inside the quarterpanel facing the amp.

There is a good 9-10ft of wire required be hidden around the outside perimeter of carpet and maybe another foot within the box, comfortably. The trunk is pretty well 6 foot wide qpanel to qpanel.

I wanted to see the amp and be able to provide easy adjustment so it's right there on the righthand side, and put the box on the left side far enough into the qtrpanel so I could still use my full size spare.

Will that make a difference in regard to the wire I need cause I was thinking 14guage but most are recommending something thicker.

Personally, I'd go 12, or maybe 10.

I know that the 14guage wire at Home Depot comes spooled with the positive and negative together, meaning I'd need only 12 feet.

Does 12 or 10? or would I need 24 feet altogether ?

go to future shop or best buy or a true car stereo store.
im not sure of the names of them around you but home depot is not the greatest place to go for speaker wire.
the source also carrys speaker wire in spools of of 24 feet.
