Futureshop and Bestbuy don't sell it to length, only in lengths of 30+ feet. They wouldn't cut me any in the install shop despite the fact I've spent nearly $750 in videos, games and a gaming system since last Christmas. I was prepared to pay the going rate even.

I think I'll go with the 14awg at Home Depot or 12awg at Rona unless I can get 8 or 10 for the same price.

Thanks guys.

Man, ANY car audio shop would sell you a run of 10 or 12 gauge for cheap.

He's only running 400WRMS . . . and people are suggesting 8 ga wire?! Wow.

I would recommend 12 ga, you can get away with 14 ga, but don't go smaller than 14.
Check out this link:

And as for the trashing on home-depot wire, wire is wire. It will conduct just as well as "professional audio" wire.

With that being said, wire that is specified for "car audio" will not experience the effects of oxidization or corrosion as quickly as other wire. It has been designed with the harsh conditions and moisture levels of a car in mind.

But I've used Home depot wire in my cars and I haven't seen any traces of oxidization, rust or corrosion. My current system has been installed for over 2 years, and I have no issues with oxidization corrosion etc on my cheapy home depot wires. As long as you don't have a car with lots of moisture issues and your not installing your equipment on the floor where moisture gathers you'll be fine with cheap wire.

I run the cheap stuff and I have seen no problems.

Thanks for your input. I was going to head out tonight to Home Depot to purchase the 14guage wire, but on recommendation from a previous post from T-Mac had decided to pickup the 5meter package of Monster Cable currently selling at XS Cargo for $15, plus tax, but wasn't sure if these were RCA's or speaker wire cable...Their store rep couldn't tell me either.

At $.50/ft it's got to be one of the better values around if it's speaker cable.

More detail on the cable from Ebay.

eBay: MONSTER CABLE INTERLINK® 101XLN INTERCONNECT CABLE (item 290114035759 end time May-15-07 10:00:00 PDT)

Anybody know if this can be used as speaker cable?

The pictures from that ebay link show interconnect (RCA) cables. These are the ones that you run from your deck to your amp.

They are RCA cables t-MAC. I just called another store in Mississauga and they told me they were RCA cables to confirm the store in Burlington was wrong and that they don't sell speaker wire only Amp Kits for $12.99 which include an 18foot run of 8 guage wire which is not enough for me.

I'll be going to Rona on the weekend for bathroom fixtures, and they have 12 guage which I think is enough for me at this point as I won't be upgrading anytime soon.

I'll probably see what Steve at Smartazz has as well, forgot all about him considering I bought my kit from him months ago sans the sub wiring.
