I am having a problem starting my car and so far the one conclusion all the mechanics I have talked to have said it is my crankshaft sensor. Now the only problem is, I have no clue where to find that in my engine. I have looked and looked, and no luck has prevailed so far. Any of you guys might know where I can find one on a 1991 Pontiac Sunbird GT 3.1L v6.

Much appreciated!

Question

can't personally help you, but if you go to either www.jbody.org or to beyond.ca both those sites have a ton of gearheads on them that might be able to help you. take a top down picture of your engine compartment as well that might help to orient them to help you better. good luck

hummm i got a haynes manual for 82 - 94 skylarks,cimarron,cavalier,frienza and sunbirds

book shows the sensor on the back passenger side of the motor... book states

"the 2.8l and the 3.1 v6 engine crankshaft sensor is bolted the the rear of the engine block"... also looks like its just above the oil pan..

I had the same problem with my Beretta, it was a 2.8L but basically the same engine

IIRC the crank sensor was either on the oil pan or just above it, on the back side of the engine. It was a pain in the *** to change because it's basically a magnet. Be careful you don't snap it because then you will have to take your oil pan off.

The one on my 86 olfs Calais was on the side of the block. It was a pain to take off too! I hope you have better luck than I did!
